Jillian Christen
Director of Education
Jillian Christen — Director of Education
Jillian was born and raised and still lives in Northeast Iowa. She graduated from Upper Iowa University with a degree in Instructional Strategist II ID/BD/LD. She taught the high school classroom at Crossroads Academy for 5 years before stepping into the Program Director position. She will be graduating from University of Northern Iowa with her Master of Arts in Education Principalship in 2024. Her free time is spent with her husband and 3 kids. Jillian has a passion for working with people and believes that everyone can learn, it’s about finding the right approach and giving them the tools to succeed.
Joeann Tesar

Joeann Tesar — Administrative Assistant
Joeann has worked for Clinicare for 14 years and in her current capacity with the Alternative Schools for 11 of those years. Originally from Chicago, she is a self-taught muralist with many years of experience teaching art to students of all ages and capabilities. Active in many local theatre groups, she enjoys connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Kayla Gindt

Kayla Gindt — Elementary Teacher
Kayla embarked on her teaching journey in the fall of 2020, and in the fall of 2023, she joined the esteemed faculty of the Eau Claire Academy Day School. Serving as an elementary special education teacher, Kayla demonstrates remarkable proficiency in catering to students from kindergarten to sixth grade.
Her teaching repertoire encompasses a diverse range of subjects including reading, language, grammar, handwriting, typing skills, spelling, math, science, social studies, and social skills.
Kayla's instructional approach is characterized by her adept utilization of verbal intervention techniques, tailored to align seamlessly with her teaching style. Her commitment to fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment is evident in her daily interactions with students.
Through her dedication and passion for education, Kayla continues to make a significant impact on the academic and personal development of her students at the Eau Claire Academy Day School.
Max Poitzsch
Middle School Teacher
Max Poitzsch — Middle School Teacher
Walter Max Poitzsch graduated from Carroll College in 1985 with a BS in Biology. He received his MA in Secondary Education from the University of Mississippi in 1994. He previously worked as a teacher at the Eau Claire Academy from 2013-2022. He is anxious to see all students succeed in school, graduate, and get good jobs.
Sue Stephan

Sue Stephan — High School Teacher
Sue Stephan has been an invaluable member of the Eau Claire Academy faculty since the 2005-06 academic year, boasting an impressive tenure of dedication and excellence.
Renowned for her innovative and outside-the-box teaching methods, Sue stands out as a favorite among students and colleagues alike. Her ability to engage students through creative approaches reflects her commitment to fostering a stimulating learning environment.
In addition to her contributions to the field of education, Sue's personal experiences as a mother of a special needs son further enrich her understanding and empathy in the classroom. As one of the most senior members of the teaching staff, Sue brings a wealth of experience accumulated since the early 1990s. Over the years, she has not only taught music, arts, and standard education but has also made significant contributions to special education, embodying versatility and dedication in her teaching career.
Matthew Thielen

Matthew Theilen — Systems and Operations Administrator
Matthew Thielen has always harbored a profound passion for technology and a deep appreciation for community service. After graduating from high school, he embarked on a journey of service and self-discovery by joining the United States Air Force.
During his tenure in the Air Force, Matthew honed his skills in information technology, mastering the navigation of complex systems and troubleshooting with precision. This experience not only deepened his technical expertise but also instilled in him a sense of discipline and dedication that would shape his career path in the years to come.
In 2019, Matthew found himself drawn to a new calling - one that merged his love for technology with his desire to make a meaningful impact on young lives. Joining the Academy, he felt privileged to work alongside passionate educators and dedicated staff, guiding and supporting the next generation of learners.
In addition to his role as the Academy's resident IT specialist, Matthew also serves as a para-professional, providing behavioral support to students. This dual role allows him to engage with students on a more personal level, offering both technical assistance and emotional support as they navigate their educational journey.
Kelly O'Connell

Kelly O'Connell — Paraprofessional
Kelly's legacy at the Eau Claire Academy extends over four decades.
Hailing from Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Kelly brings with him a deep-rooted love for his home state's sports teams, particularly the Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. His fervent support for these teams is a reflection of his strong sense of community and pride in Wisconsin's athletic heritage.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Kelly's personal life is equally rich and fulfilling. He shares his life with a loving family, including his cherished wife, daughter, and two adored grandsons. Their presence adds immeasurable joy and fulfillment to Kelly's life, serving as constant reminders of the importance of love, support, and connection.
